Inspiration By Tomato Sauce

Tune of the Moment: "How Come You Never Go There" by Feist-off her new album, "Metals".

Ok, so it's not a completely transparent tune choice. Feist has just released her new album and to celebrate said release, she sang live on David Letterman's show. One of my MSM classmates, Jay The Rattman, was booked to play bass saxophone on the gig and I know I speak for all my MM2 tribesmen when I say we were ridiculously excited for and proud of him. Add to that, the song is pretty darn cool AND Letterman mentions JayZee at the end of the clip. How cool? Too cool for school.

I know I've been a tad absent on the blog-front and I apologise for my fairweather behaviour. In my defense, I've been immersed in holding down my two fabulous day jobs while simultaneously planning my debut album recording. Well, now I have no excuses because the album is done. Yes, indeed. We spent two blissful days in the studio last week and recorded eleven tracks which I hope you'll get to enjoy soon soon soon. I was swimming in feelings of good fortune, adoration for the musicians (who also happen to be dear friends), and excitement at the prospect of documenting this music-music that has grown and developed with me over the past two years.

True to form, however, food has not faded completely into the background. I've been obsessed with making large batches of roast tomato or roast aubergine sauce/puree and spooning it onto everything from rice to noodles to eggs to avocado on toast. It's a really great way to prepare vegetables (in general-sweet potatoes would work well too) and requires little else other than the veg, olive oil, sea salt, pepper and maybe a bit of honey to bring out the sweetness.

The recipe originated from this recipe from the lovely Ina Garten (the Barefoot Contessa) and I've taken the basic concept and made tomato/red pepper variations. It's such a delicious and versatile dish. I have, in fact, at times resorted to eating it out of the tupperware with a spoon and a furrowed brow as I contemplate the introduction to a new song.

(Before being pureed.....)

This is a rather short blog post...But I will add this little snippet of "Nicky Schrire Plus 3 (X2)" in the studio. There was much larking about, silhouetted dancing, and, if you listen carefully, playback of some of the new music.....inspired, of course, by eating a lot of roast tomato sauce.

(Epilogue: Just in case it aids and abets future album success, Jay The Rattman guests on two tracks on the album....just saying....in case....you never know...)
